CSU Cheerleaders win national competition

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - It was a successful beginning for the 2008 Charleston Southern cheerleading squad as they took first place in their first-ever competition on March 15, 2008, at the Cheer Ltd. National Cheerleading Competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

With three guys on the squad, CSU was placed in the small co-ed division, competing against other schools with anywhere from one-seven guys participating. They took down seven other teams en route to the first-place finish to start the competitive era for Charleston Southern cheerleading.

"My goal as the coach is to create a program that will continue to attract qualified athletes and represent CSU and what we stand for in many areas," said Coach Summer Reyes. "This was the first time CSU Cheerleading has ever competed and just going was a huge hurdle, but winning was something we'd hoped for and by faith and determination we were able to accomplish. This will not only attract future athletes, but will also help our program become more recognizable."
