InterLibrary Loan (ILL)

PASCAL Delivers Logo OCLC Logo

Materials which are not owned by the CSU Library may be borrowed from other libraries by current Charleston Southern University students, faculty, and staff.

InterLibrary Loan (ILL) requests may be made using PASCAL Delivers or OCLC InterLibrary Loan and the items will be delivered to the CSU Library.

Or, CSU students may choose to visit other libraries in person to borrow materials, or may choose to have PASCAL deliver the item to another PASCAL library.

For more information about loan periods, costs, etc., see the Questions About InterLibrary Loan.

REQUEST A BOOK

  1. Search the CSU Online Catalog   AND   the Discover Search to verify that the CSU Library does not own the book you want in print or electronic form. If the book is only available at CSU in electronic format and you need to use a print version, you may request the print version through InterLibrary Loan but indicate on the request form that you do not want the electronic version.

  2. Search the PASCAL Delivers Catalog.

NOTE: While using the CSU Online Catalog or the Discover Search, click on the PASCAL Delivers icon displayed on the right of any results list and your search will automatically be performed in the PASCAL Delivers catalog.

  3. If the book is listed in the PASCAL Delivers Catalog, use the links within that catalog which say "Place Request" or "Request this Item"

    1. When asked "With which institution are you affiliated?" select Charleston Southern University from the pulldown menu.

    2. When asked for your library ID number, use your CSU ID number, without any leading zeroes or any extra digits at the end. If it does not recognize your number, see the Questions About InterLibrary Loan

  4. If the book is NOT listed in the PASCAL Delivers Catalog, then request it using OCLC InterLibrary Loan.

    1. Simplest method: use the Discover Search    Show me how
      1. Search for the book title title. Hint: put the title in quotation marks for an exact match and a faster search
      2. Remove the default limit to "Available in print or online from CSU"
      3. If the item is included in the full Discover index but is not available from CSU, a link to "Request this item through interlibrary loan" will display. Click that link to open an online form.
      4. Fill out your personal information, verify the item information, and click "Submit" A copy of the request will be sent to your email as well.

    2. Or, you may download the ILL Book Request Form as a Word document and either bring it to the Reference Desk or email the completed form as an attachment to csuref@csuniv.edu

    3. Or, fill out an ILL Book Request Form which you may pick up at the CSU Library Reference Desk.

    4. If you have identified the book you are requesting via an online database or WorldCat, you may attach a printout or a saved copy of the citation for more accuracy in requesting the exact item.

  5. If you use OCLC InterLibrary Loan to request a book which is available through PASCAL Delivers, the CSU ILL staff will place your request through PASCAL Delivers instead. To save time and receive your materials faster, it is always a good idea for you to search PASCAL Delivers first and place your request there if possible before submitting a request via OCLC ILL
