Student Group Study Room Policies




Who May Use Student Group Study Rooms

  • Student Group Study Rooms are for the exclusive use of Charleston Southern University students with a valid CSU ID card for course related, library purposes only.

  • Student Group Study Rooms may not be used for clubs, recreation, regularly scheduled meetings or for campus departmental business, including meetings with classroom instructors for regular office hours.

  • The following activities are not allowed in the Student Group Study Rooms: painting, practicing music, partying, holding office hours, classes, or activities that are disruptive to others.

Policies for All Student Group Study Rooms

Library personnel are Campus Officials and Library policy/procedures are to be followed upon their request as such. Anyone failing to abide by the policies governing the use of the Student Group Study Rooms may be denied future use of the rooms.

  • Student Group Study Room use is scheduled in 2-hour blocks for:
    • 2 students in room 7
    • 2-4 students in rooms 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 11 & 12
    • 3-5 students in room 1 & 4
    • 3-6 students in room 6

  • At least 2 students in the group must be present to check out rooms 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11 & 12; at least 3 students must be present to check out rooms 1, 4 & 6. The person checking out the room will leave her/his CSU ID at the Circulation Desk.

  • At the end of the designated checkout period or renewal period, all students must vacate the study room. If the person checking out the room leaves early, all parties must leave as well.

  • No individual student may use a group study room.

  • One renewal allowed. Fine - $1.00 per hour overdue.

  • Rooms left unoccupied for more than 10 minutes will be forfeited.

  • No food, uncovered drinks or tobacco of any kind may be used in the Student Group Study Rooms.

  • Lights are to be turned on while in the room and off when leaving.

  • Occupancy in each group study room is limited by the number of chairs already in the room. Chairs may not be added or removed from the rooms.

  • Conversation should be held to a reasonable level, as rooms are not soundproof.

  • Rooms must be left with door locked in a clean and orderly condition. The Library is not responsible for personal property left in rooms.

Sign-in/out Procedures

  • Check-in at the first floor Circulation Desk.
  • At least 2 students in the group must be present to check out rooms 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11 & 12; at least 3 students must be present to check out rooms 1, 4 & 6. The person checking out the room will leave her/his CSU ID at the Circulation Desk.
  • At the end of the designated checkout period or renewal period, all students must vacate the study room. If the person checking out the room leaves early, all parties must leave as well.
