CSU to host MLK Observance
Charleston Southern University will host the Black History Intercollegiate Consortium’s 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in Lightsey Chapel Auditorium on the campus of Charleston Southern.
Each year a different member of the Consortium hosts the event. Members are Charleston Southern, Trident Technical College, the Medical University of South Carolina and The Citadel. During the commemorative service, the Consortium schools will present awards to individuals selected by students at each school.
Dr. Hester Young, assistant dean of students at CSU, said, “We are proud to participate in the recognition of these special individuals who have demonstrated dedication and distinguished service to the African American community and the dream of Dr. King which lives on through efforts to ensure that equality and justice prevail.”
Following the program, a candlelight observance will take place around the Reflection Pond in the center of CSU’s campus. The public is invited to the program and candlelight service.
