FINANCIAL AID LIVEThrough the MyCSU Portal, students have access to real-time information about the current status of their financial aid awards. The Financial Aid Office also posts important messages here about missing documents that may impact the release of awarded aid.
RETURN OF FEDERAL TITLE IV FUNDS
Students who receive the Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Direct Stafford Loans, or the Federal Direct PLUS loan are awarded with the expectation that they will complete the entire period of enrollment. Students “earn” a percentage of the funds they are disbursed with each day of class attendance. When a student who has received federal financial aid (Title IV funds) leaves school before the end of the semester
or period of enrollment, federal law requires the university to calculate the percentage and amount of “unearned” financial aid funds that must be returned to the federal government. This calculation may have the effect of requiring the student to repay funds that have already been disbursed to the student.
If your student’s financial aid is less than the amount of his or her charges, CSU has a payment plan that will allow you to pay the remaining balance in monthly payments. The My Payment Plan allows you to pay off your balance in four or five monthly payments. Payment plans are offered for the fall and spring semesters of each academic year.
Tip: You can apply for financial aid as early as January 1. Though most families wait until they have filed their income taxes, you can use an estimate of the prior year’s income taxes to complete the FAFSA and simply correct the data with the financial aid office after you have filed your current year’s taxes. Remember, financial aid
is distributed on a first-come basis — the later you apply, the less aid you may get.

STUDENT HOLDS PROHIBIT REGISTRATION
Your student’s account must be in good standing for your son or daughter to register for classes, obtain an official CSU transcript, or to secure a dorm room.
Tip: Be Aware—Students who owe a Library fine, have unpaid parking tickets, owe a Residence Life Office fee, or have unreturned equipment will not be able to register, drop/add classes, or obtain a transcript.
Tip: Don’t be looking for student bills via snail mail. For cost, efficiency, and accuracy, CSU posts them directly to your student’s MyCSU account.
